I have an old Macbook Air that I put Elementary on to make a "just write, don't tinker" machine. It's quite nice.
For me the determining factor in picking a distro is how much I'll be tempted to fiddle with it, not will it run well. When I have Manjaro installed I can't help installing updates, trying new software and changing to some new exciting theme color.
I feel like I have to provide "parental controls" to keep my own inner 6 year old from going nuts.

You want to crush surveillance capitalism? It has to be made illegal. Companies like Amazon, Google, Facebook, Disney, etc. need to be regulated so tightly they can't even breathe without an audit.
You champion open governments, using nothing but free+libre OSS. If they have a need for something that up to now doesn't have a good FLOSS alternative, gov't and universities work together to *make* one.
@jon I also recently bought a DRM-free FLAC album from Bandcamp, without any issues. I wish there were more online stores like them!
